Detention Center Release Paths

Habersham County Detention Center is the local jail for people awaiting trial and those serving terms of one year or less. Leaving the building can mean bond, time served, a court order, sentence completion, or transfer. Only some of those outcomes place the person in the community. A transfer ends custody at this facility but starts or continues custody elsewhere. The Sheriff’s booking and release record should identify the release date, release type, and destination when that information is public.

A bond release means the person is out of jail while the case continues. It does not mean the charge was dismissed. A court order or sentence record may explain a time-served release. When the person goes to the Georgia Department of Corrections, an out-of-county jail, federal authorities, or ICE, the next agency becomes the source for current custody while Habersham records remain the source for the local booking and transfer.

Confirm Habersham Jail Release

The Habersham County Sheriff does not currently publish an online jail roster or recent-release feed. Confirmation must use direct channels. Begin with the jail for current routing, then use the court file or a written records request for durable proof. Georgia VINE may provide a custody-change alert when the participating feed contains the person, but it is not a certified release record.

1. Call the jail or administrative office and ask whether the person remains in Habersham custody or was transferred.
2. Check the Habersham Clerk record for a bond order, disposition, sentence, dismissal, or transfer into state custody.
3. Use Georgia VINE for a custody-status check or alert when a matching record is available.
4. Send a written request through the HCSO Open Records channel for the booking record, release date and time, release reason, and transfer destination.
5. Follow the named destination in GDC, BOP, ICE, or the receiving county’s records if custody continued.

Detention Center Release Records

Release records held by the Habersham County Sheriff must be requested in writing. HCSO accepts email and in-person requests. Include the requester’s name, phone number, return address, and precise facts such as the detained person’s full name, date of birth if known, booking or arrest date, location, and case number. Ask for the booking record, release date and time, release type or custody disposition, public bond papers, and transfer destination. Charges may apply, and HCSO says it will contact the requester before processing when costs are incurred.

Habersham Detention Center Facts

The Sheriff’s Office operates the detention center in Clarkesville. Its Jail Division performs booking and intake, classification, transport, and front-desk duties. HCSO says the jail opened in the mid-1990s with room for 130 people. The daily Habersham County inmate count ranges from 150 to 230, which is why local custody records and physical location do not always match.

Up to 60 or more people may be housed in out-of-county facilities. That does not erase the Habersham booking, bond, or court case. Ask HCSO to name the holding jail before treating absence from Clarkesville as release.

Habersham Release Roster Limits

There is no active official online roster or recent-release list on the HCSO site. In January 2026, WNEG reported the Sheriff’s explanation: scammers had used roster details to identify and solicit money from families, so the function was deactivated at least temporarily. HCSO reported that the scam incidents stopped after removal.

A name missing from the web therefore proves nothing. It may reflect the absence of the whole roster, a transfer, a spelling issue, or a release. HCSO continues providing arrest summaries to The Northeast Georgian, but an arrest summary is not a formal release record and cannot establish the final custody disposition.

Habersham ICE Transfer Releases

A release from the detention center can become an immigration transfer. HCSO maintains a Quarterly Immigration Report route, with reports covering quarters from 2025 into 2026 at the time of research. Those reports do not prove any one person’s status. They do show why immigration custody must be checked as a separate path.

The page helps identify the reporting channel, while an individual transfer still requires the HCSO disposition and an ICE detainee locator check. ICE states that its locator covers people currently in ICE custody or held by CBP for more than 48 hours. Search by A-number when known, or by name, country of birth, and birth date.

Habersham State Prison Releases

Lee Arrendale State Prison and Arrendale Transitional Center are located in Habersham County, but neither is part of the county jail. Their records belong to GDC. A person may also leave this detention center for GDC after sentencing. In that case, use GDC Find an Offender and read Current Status, Most Recent Institution, Actual Release Date, and Max Possible Release Date.

An actual date with inactive status supports a recorded GDC release. “Currently serving” with active status means state custody continues. A maximum possible release date is the end of the imposed term, not a promise of the day the person will leave. If parole follows, confirm it through the State Board of Pardons and Paroles and the DCS Clarkesville office.
